  • Salary: £26,000 (20hrs/week)

A rare and rewarding opportunity has become available for a skilled and passionate Part Time Gardener – Swindon to join a privately owned 1.5-acre garden set within a picturesque village in North Wiltshire. The beautiful gardens surround the property, features a mix of well-maintained lawns, a productive kitchen garden, a small woodland area, and a tranquil pond, offering a rich and varied horticultural environment. The grounds also include a former tennis court, presenting an exciting opportunity for redevelopment and creative input from the successful candidate.

This is a rewarding, hands-on role for a skilled gardener looking to take pride in the ongoing care of a well-established private garden. Whether your experience comes from formal training or time spent working in similar settings, what matters most is a solid understanding of plants and a commitment to maintaining high standards throughout the year. Equally important is the ability to communicate well and develop a positive, professional relationship with the householder, helping to ensure the garden reflects their vision.

A creative flair is essential, as the role also involves contributing to ongoing garden projects and advising on planting schemes and landscaping developments. This is an exciting chance to be part of a garden that continues to evolve, where your ideas and expertise will be valued in shaping its future.

The successful candidate will take on a broad range of gardening tasks, from pruning, weeding and planting to mowing the lawns, trimming hedges and looking after the greenhouse. They’ll also handle composting, pest control and seasonal jobs like mulching and clearing leaves. Hands-on experience with kitchen gardens is important, as is confidence using and maintaining garden machinery. While not essential, having a chainsaw certificate would be an advantage.

In addition to core horticultural responsibilities, the role will involve occasional light property maintenance tasks, working closely with the housekeeper and householders. These tasks may include keeping patios and outdoor furniture clean, maintaining sheds, putting out rubbish and recycling, jet washing, minor DIY such as replacing bulbs or batteries, and helping to supervise contractors or tradespeople. There may also be occasional driving duties and help required with deliveries or tip runs.

A driving licence and own vehicle are essential. You should be comfortable working independently, have excellent time management skills, and be happy to work outdoors in all seasons. Discretion, reliability, and a friendly manner are key, along with a willingness to undergo a basic DBS check.

This is a part-time gardener PAYE role and is for weekday mornings, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 1pm (20 hours a week @ £25/hour). The owners are often away, so they’re looking for someone dependable and trustworthy who can take care of the garden and keep everything looking its best while they’re not around.
