Horticulturist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and enthusiastic Horticulturist to join the gardening team at an established private estate Southwest of Newbury. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone committed to maintaining exceptional horticultural standards within a prestigious estate setting.
The gardens are extensive and are a beautifully developed landscape, featuring recently enhanced planting schemes, mature specimen trees, formal and informal borders, lawns, hedging, water features and distinctive garden areas.
The successful candidate will be part of a friendly and experienced team involved in the care and presentation of the ornamental gardens with occasional support across other areas of the estate. Duties will include planting, pruning, watering, weeding, lawn care, pest and disease monitoring, and general horticultural upkeep, alongside assisting with seasonal planning and landscape projects. Communicating regularly with the Senior Gardener about priorities, materials, plant health concerns, and maintenance requirements, the team work together to maintain high horticultural standards whilst adhering to health and safety procedures.
Applicants should have an RHS Level 2 qualification or equivalent with practical experience in ornamental horticulture. A sound plant knowledge and experience caring for a wide range of plants, including containerised and glasshouse-grown specimens would be beneficial. Experience with relevant garden machinery, horticultural power tools and tickets are highly desirable. A full UK driving licence is required due to the rural location of the property.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, discreet and professional, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Physical fitness, good time management, adaptability and a strong work ethic are vital, as is a willingness to work flexibly, including occasional weekend duties, with time off in lieu provided.
