Head Gardener – Vacancy

Private owner’s garden within a wider estate in south Hampshire seeks a head gardener. This is a full-time permanent post and requires an experienced, qualified horticulturist.

The garden was created 15 years ago and is still evolving, so as well as maintaining it, the gardener will be responsible for working closely with the owner to plan, select and implement new plantings. This is very much a hands-on position and would suit someone who wants to apply the full range of their knowledge and experience to achieve tangible and satisfying results.

The head gardener will also manage and instruct one or two part-time assistant gardeners.

Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of plants, trees and shrubs and hold a horticultural qualification to level 2 or above. They will be expected to undertake all horticultural and gardening jobs to a high standard. They will have thoroughly mastered the necessary seasonal jobs, plus be flexible enough to adapt to the challenges of an unpredictable climate. Demonstrated competence in the operation and maintenance of garden machinery and tools, and will be expected to bring all parts of the garden to a high level of presentation.

This is an unusual and interesting opportunity for an experienced individual to work for an employer who is highly committed to their beautifully situated garden.

Salary:  £28,000 – £32,000 depending on qualifications. Plus benefits.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Horticultural qualification to level 2 or above essential.

Driving Licence essential.
