Sole Gardener
An experienced Sole Gardener is sought after to manage and maintain a beautiful 2 acres of garden on a large privately owned estate in North Shropshire. The estate forms part of three family-owned estates including a working farm and partridge/pheasant shoots with the family dividing their time between Shropshire and the North and West of Scotland
The private garden contains formal lawns, large herbaceous borders, rose garden, productive walled kitchen garden, reflective pool, small woodland garden, and orchard and tennis court. The Sole gardener will be responsible for maintaining the gardens and grounds to a consistently high standard all year round. This includes growing vegetables, fruit and cut flowers for the household, propagate plants for border planting and pot displays, maintain water features,
The Sole gardener may be required to assist with additional duties as directed by the principles such as supervise and coordinate contractors whilst working in the property grounds, prepare, stock and stet fires in the family home and shooting lodge as well as support estate activities.
Applications must possess good plant knowledge and a high level of horticultural craft skills. He / She will be organised, have excellent time keeping skills, flexible in duties, good attention to detail and take pride their work. The Gardener will be able to work unsupervised and use their own initiative and although the position is single handed, they will be part of a wider team on the estate and should be able to work well in team and liaise with other estate staff. Candidates will have a good level of fitness and positive disposition. Experienced in using and maintain a wide range of garden machinery as well as a full clean driving licence is essential.
Working hours are normally Monday to Friday 8-5pm. However, applicants may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends when required for harvesting of produce, watering duties, etc.
Accommodation is provided for the successful applicant if required 2-bedroom semi-detached, unfurnished cottage with a small garden. Partners, pets and children are welcome. Council tax is paid by the estate and all other bills are paid by the tenant.
SALARY: £30,000 – £35,000 DOE plus accommodation
