A unique position has arisen on a beautiful private estate for a hands-on experienced Sole Gardener with a talent for creative plant use, to help establish, maintain, and develop the garden. Their current gardener has been with them for the past fifteen years, and their impending retirement has created an opportunity for an experienced Sole Gardener to take over and enjoy working in a stunning space.
The stunning Grade II property is located near Chesham, Buckinghamshire and is surrounded by 4 acres of gardens, 2 of which are formal gardens. There are many elements to the gardens including a maze, wild meadow areas, extensive hedges, a Japanese Garden, and a kitchen garden with greenhouse, growing a huge variety of produce for the household. Other aspects of the property include a sunken garden, tennis court, and swimming pool. The owner is extremely passionate about the gardens and are looking to recruit the suitable candidate to help keep them to the highest of standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sole Gardener with good physical fitness and plant knowledge to play a leading role in enriching and maintaining the gardens. As Sole Gardener, this role overseas the garden of the property and to manage the whole seasonal calendar of planting, pruning, maintaining, and tendering with a great deal of love, care and attention in order to achieve a high standard of excellence. He / She will be highly self-motivated, able to plan and carryout your duties on your own with little supervision. The Sole gardener should have previous experience as a professional gardener with good practical gardening skills and be familiar with the safe use and general maintenance of garden machinery and tools. The position also involves additional duties on the property and would suit an all-rounded gardener with a practical mindset.
The ideal candidate will have a high attention to detail, be organised in their approach and have demonstrable gardening experience on private estates and/or horticulturally diverse gardens. Academic horticultural qualifications are desired but are not essential if considerable gardening experience can be demonstrated via previous work and references. Suitable candidates will hold demonstrable experience in a similar role as well as academic horticultural qualifications at level 2 or higher. Spray and chainsaw certification would be an advantage but are not essential. The ability to operate and carry out basic maintenance of garden machinery is essential as all tools and machinery are kept in immaculate condition. Possession of a full UK driving licence is required.
SALARY: Up to £30,000 DOE
