Role description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled gardener to join our experienced and welcoming team. The successful candidate must be hard working, demonstrate a foundation of theoretical and practical ability, have a passion for plants and a positive approach.

The estate comprises of herbaceous borders, shrub beds, formal and informal lawns, wildflower meadows, kitchen garden and glasshouse. There are also exciting new projects where redesigning and staged development are ongoing. A family weekend home, the ethos is nurturing nature; the wider estate being one of the largest rewilding projects in the Chiltern Hills.

The successful candidate must possess a minimum RHS Level 2 qualification, or equivalent. Working under direction of the Head Gardener they will have the opportunity to further their horticultural development and take ownership of certain areas of the gardens.

Key responsibilities

  •  Undertake tasks including but not limited to propagation, weeding, irrigation, pruning, hedge cutting, strimming, mowing, seasonal lawn care, training, planting, staking, composting, pest and disease management
  • Develop and maintain the gardens to a high horticultural standard
  • Use of a wide range of tools and machinery
  • Occasional small involvement around the wider estate i.e. feeding birds
  • Work in a manner that ensures the safety of self and others
  • Liaise with the owners, and all staff to ensure the effective daily running of the estate

  • Self-motivated and driven
  • Ability to show initiative
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Effective communication skills
  • Willing to work outside in all weathers
  • Able to deliver on physically demanding tasks
