Part-time Kitchen Gardener

A unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and driven part-time kitchen gardener to join a friendly team for two days a week on a private family estate, located near Shaftsbury, Dorset.

The garden area consists of formal and amenity lawns, box hedging and topiary, herbaceous borders, large kitchen garden, glasshouse and other garden compartments requiring a high standard of maintenance.

The one acre walled garden contains a wide variety of staple fruit and vegetables to supply the house. The kitchen gardener will report into the Head Gardener and will be responsible for the kitchen garden, orchard, two greenhouses and a large polytunnel. He / She will be required to carry out sowing and communicate with the house on the fruit and vegetable required throughout various times of year. The orchard contains apple trees, quinces, pears, amongst others.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about food in relation to fruit and vegetable growing and know how they can be prepared.  He / She will ideally hold a level 2 horticultural qualification at least, with considerable experience and a confident approach to growing produce.  You will also need to be an organised and proactive person with good record keeping abilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a kitchen gardener with a real passion and drive for growing to work within a close-knit team on this prestigious and historic estate.

SALARY:  £18 – 25 per hour dependent on experience  (2 days / week)
