Part-Time Gardener

  • Part Time PRIVATE AD
  • £20/hour pro-rata
  • East Sussex

We are a busy family living in sight of the stunning South Downs in the picturesque village of Ditchling. The 3.5 acre garden is landscaped – and the main garden was designed by award-winning garden designer Julian Treyer-Evans.

We have a formal garden with box hedging, pond, and beds that are a mixture of herbaceous and perennials,  a kitchen garden with raised beds and a greenhouse, further areas of the garden include lawns, shrubberies, orchards and wild meadows. The whole property is surrounded by a mixture of laurel and hedgerows, and there are many, many hornbeam hedges to be maintained in the body of the garden.

This is a job for a passionate and enthusiastic gardener, who wants to get stuck into a project and will not be daunted! In recent years the garden has become somewhat overgrown so we are looking for someone who would be keen to bring it back to its best. That said we are keen to be as environmental as possible, encouraging wildlife, butterflies etc.

In addition to the gardening at the house, we have a rental holiday property nearby set on a lake. Some of the role will include maintenance there : keeping paths clear, strimming, possible hedge and tree maintenance.  You will need to be adaptable – no two days are the same here – and you need to like dogs.

Hours are flexible to fit around other commitments but we would like someone for 16 hours per week minimum – however this could be more and open to discussion.
