Do you want to be part of something amazing, and join the UK’s leading horticultural charity? A place where we are driven by a sheer love of plants and the belief that gardeners make the world a better place, and where you will be working alongside some of the best horticulturists in the country.  At RHS Garden Wisley we are looking for a keen horticulturist to join our Welcome and Riverside Team.

For more than 210 years the Royal Horticultural Society has been the force behind the nation’s gardening. Our charitable purpose is to inspire passion and excellence in the science, art and practice for horticulture. Our vision is to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place. As a charity, the RHS aims to inspire a wide range of audiences by demonstrating the wonders of gardening through all that we do including gardens and shows, in our publications and online, and through our work in the community.

The Welcome and Riverside Team covers our exciting new welcome landscape, which includes an avenue of flowering cherries, contemporary plantings and a recently developed Arts and Crafts styled garden in front of the Historic Laboratory building. It also covers the atmospheric Pinetum, which boasts plants that predate RHS Wisley itself, the Riverside Garden, the new Heather Landscape, home of the national collection for Erica, Calluna and Daboecia and an extensive ornamental grass garden.

As a horticulturist you will be responsible for the care, cultivation and maintenance of designated areas of the garden in addition to carrying out the new horticultural development plan. You will be helping to drive forward enhancements across the 186-acre garden to make it a treasure trove of plantsmanship and creative gardening. We are looking for an individual who possess a good general knowledge of horticultural practice or relevant specialism and the ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team. But most importantly an individual with a love of horticulture and plants.

The RHS provides a number of great benefits for employees including:

  • Free access to all RHS Gardens, Shows and Libraries
  • Employee discounts including airport parking, hotels, retail and gym membership
  • 25 days holiday (increasing 28 and 30 with service) and option to buy/sell
  • Monthly Garden Magazine and access to Horticultural advice
  • Sponsorship for External Studies

It’s never been more exciting time to join the Royal Horticultural Society. We are making a landmark £160 million investment in the future of horticulture over the next 10 years. This will allow us to bring the joy of gardening to millions more people and make some of the most significant and exciting changes in the history. Join us and be part of the history.
