Head Gardener required
A full-time energetic hands-on experienced Gardener required to lead a small team on a 25 acre privately owned estate in south east Oxfordshire.
The grounds consist of formal gardens, an acre walled garden this produces all vegetables, fruit and cut flowers for the house, an orchard, wild areas, paddocks, croquet lawn, over 400 trees, lake and fountain.
The estate is fully organic so an experienced gardener with good knowledge of organic practices would be helpful.
The candidate will lead a small team of 2-3 part-time gardening staff. Must also be happy to care for animals such as dogs, chickens and honeybees.
This would be an excellent opportunity to gain a first headship, must have team leader skills, be pro-active and able to problem solve, able to lead the everyday gardening and will be knowledgeable and capable to do all aspects of gardening to include propagation, tool and machine maintenance, hedge cutting, lawn care, pest control, vegetable and cut flowers production, indoor plant care, planning and design, budgeting, etc.
The candidate should be able to work alongside the Gamekeeper on the 50-acre woodland which is slightly separate to the estate. Keeping paths mowed and free of branches and assisting on shoot days.
This position includes a 2 bedroom cottage provided with the following bills water, heating oil, and council tax included
Salary dependent on horticultural qualifications and gardening experience.
