An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Gardener on a beautiful 1500-acre estate in Suffolk.  Working within the Estate Team you will be responsible for seven acres of formal gardens consisting of lakes, ponds, moat, orchards, kitchen garden, cut flowers and lawns.  Parts of the garden are mature and well established and further to the renovation of the Grade 1 listed property, other areas are in their infancy in terms of design and planting.  The role manages a team of two part time staff and will suit an experienced and talented, hands-on individual with a desire to grow and further establish this very special part of England.

Across the larger estate, there is livestock, paddocks, farmland, pastures, woodland and an extensive rewilding programme in place.  With potting sheds, glasshouse and polytunnel, all of the Estate’s plants are propagated.

If you are a horticulturalist committed to your career with passion, energy and drive to continue to develop the garden, working closely with the owners and bringing the enthusiasm to work alongside the rewilding team on some incredible conservation projects then this is the opportunity for you!

Applicants must be excellent communicators with a positive attitude towards managing challenges and able to manage a dynamic team and continue to ensure a positive environment. The successful candidate will ideally hold a horticultural qualification and / or experience working on a diverse garden at a Senior level.  Experience with the use and basic maintenance of the garden machinery is important to ensure all is kept in good working order. A full driving licence and your own transport are required as the property is located rurally. A DBS will be required.

The accommodation provided is a lovely newly converted granary with three bedrooms and a garden.  The property is rent free with bills and utilities being the tenant’s responsibility.  There are other property options available depending on the successful applicant’s circumstances.  Partners and children welcome, pets to be reviewed.
