This is an exciting opportunity for a head gardener to work on a family run estate near Newmarket in Suffolk.  After 25 years our current gardener is retiring and we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced gardener to take over from him, bringing new and creative ideas to our formal gardens, woodlands and moated areas. We are looking for someone with boundless energy and vision to move the gardens forward and hopefully also train up an apprentice. We have been very keen in the past to train young gardeners and this would be part of the role. Not only is there the maintenance of our main 5 acre garden where we run a small wedding venue there is the chance to create a new garden on an adjacent site that includes an 11th Century moat and surrounding paddocks and pond.

The job is full of variety from propagating and growing flowers, fruit and veg, establishing new borders, small pond maintenance, and topiary, to general garden maintenance of weeding, pruning, mowing and hedge cutting.

We are looking for someone with a real passion for horticulture, ideal candidates will be physically fit, enthusiastic and ready to tackle anything! They should have at least 2 years’ experience, RHS LVL2, PA1/PA6, and be used to operating and maintaining a variety of garden machinery. Chainsaw CS30/31 would also be desirable.

You will be joining a small young team on our farming estate and accommodation is available if required.

Our estate is situated in a rural location but has easy access to Newmarket, Haverhill, Cambridge and London.
