Groundsperson

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Groundsperson to work within a large independent school in the Manchester area.

The school grounds cover an extensive area and consist of 35 acres of sports grounds including several football and rugby pitches, cricket squares, training areas and tennis courts. Sport is a very important part of School life. Sports teams have extensive fixture lists with other schools and the school teams take part in a wide range of local and national competitions in many different sports. The Grounds team take great pride in the quality of our pitches.

The Grounds Person will play a contributing role in the success of the school by providing sports surfaces of the highest quality and by preserving and enhancing the visual amenity of the whole school site. Tasks will vary daily as determined by the Grounds Manager / Deputy Grounds Manager and will include duties from preparing all sports pitches, use of tractor mounted equipment, operation of pedestrian and ride on mowers, initial and overmark line marking, weed control throughout site, application of fertilizers and chemicals, gritting, salt spreading and snow clearing when applicable.

Applicants for this position should hold a level 2 qualification in sports turf maintenance or of a similar nature, equally a good level of experience within this industry would be considered. PA1& PA2 spraying licenses, ideally a tractor operation license, basic health and safety qualification, manual handling and a full clean driving license.

The ideal candidate should have good attention to detail and be able to organize their workload effectively proving to be a reliable and effective team player, along with being able to work alone using their own initiative. The successful candidate will ideally have a proven track record of grounds maintenance with basic machinery maintenance skills and be practical minded.

The working hours for this position are from 8:00 to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, you will be expected to work Saturdays in which will be considered as overtime paid, at time and a half (this will be discussed with the grounds manager). This position also offers a very generous benefits package including specified school closure days, 19 days holiday rising to 25 over 5 years and a school pension plan in which a 6% contribution is matched by a 14% employers contribution.

SALARY:       Up to £28,000 depending on experience
