Gardener/Groundsperson
A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Gardener/Groundsperson to work under a talented Head Gardener on a stunning private estate near Epping in Essex. This role will involve working directly with the Head Gardener, to manage and maintain the gardens and grounds to a high standard.
This 25-acre garden features an array of stunning elements, including a five-acre field. A picturesque lake with an island that holds a topiary garden. A formal parterre, with eight rose beds, and a knot garden. There are also traditional cottage garden borders, shrub borders, a productive vegetable garden, and a 140-year-old orchard.
Additionally, there is a kitchen garden and orchard that produces apricots, cooking apples, pears, and cultivated blackberries, along with a striking hydrangea wall complemented by jasmine on the back wall. The client is currently in the process of beginning the planning of a hot border to further add to the diversity. Assistance in the garden is currently provided by way of a consultant horticulturist (one day per month), a full-time maintenance gardener, and a live-in couple that assist with the gardens occasionally.
Applicants must have a passion for horticulture and a hands-on all rounded approach to gardening and grounds maintenance. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, physically fit and capable of working to a high degree of detail. The work will involve daily operation of garden machinery (strimmers, mowers and hedge cutters etc.) so candidates will be well-versed in this area, whether from a commercial or private estate background.
A full UK driving licence is essential, and applicants must be friendly and positive in their outlook so as to maintain the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the estate. The property is a private home to the owner and is not currently open to the public.
SALARY: £28,000 DOE
