Gardens Manager

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is recruiting a Gardens Manager to manage the sustainable maintenance and development of gardens and land within the Trust’s Estate, which includes the Shakespeare family homes.

Through horticultural excellence, staff, student and volunteer supervision, you will continue to develop these national and internationally recognised gardens. This will include developing and managing the gardens to contribute to a world class visitor experience, to engage with our supporters and stake holders whilst contributing to organisation wide activities that educate and inspire our visitors, in their interest in Shakespeare, Tudor life, gardens and horticulture.

To be successful in this role you will have horticulture qualifications and experience of working in gardens that are open to the public. You will have a good knowledge of plant species and their husbandry, garden design, horticultural methods and practices, fertiliser applications, Health & Safety best practice, machinery and equipment, tree safety and environmental sustainability.

You will be used to managing a team of staff, volunteers and students that are spread across multiple sites, be able to develop strong working relationships across a variety of departments and with landscape and garden contractors.

The salary for the Gardens Manager is £25,643.80 to £29,465.80 per annum dependent on knowledge, skills and experience.

23 days annual leave entitlement, plus 8 Bank Holidays and will be auto-enrolled into the pension scheme.
