An exciting opportunity for a Senior Gardener or Gardening Couple has arisen to work within a stunning private estate, near Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. The current Gardener has been with the owners for a wonderful 18 years and due to their upcoming retirement, the client is now looking for enthusiastic and passionate horticulturalists to join the estate.
In its entirety the estate covers 250-acres, with 6-acres of both relaxed and formal gardens surrounding the property. These comprise of expansive lawns, an orchard, a walled garden which contains shrubs, herbaceous borders, espalier fruit trees, fruit and vegetables and a cutting garden. Other elements include a Victorian greenhouse, a variety of climbers and a Victorian lido which has recently been converted into a pond. The owners are extremely fond of their garden and have some upcoming projects planned, this includes the development of an area within the walled garden, as well as potentially creating another large pond. Therefore, this role would suit candidates who can offer their creative input and help deliver the new projects to the highest standards.
Applicants should ideally hold a horticultural qualification combined with excellent plant knowledge and previous experience working on private estates. Experience in planting, pruning, lawn care and propagation is necessary for the role, as is competence in the use of a wide range of machinery and good craft skills. A full UK driving licence is essential. The successful candidate(s) will be passionate about their work and have a positive attitude and will have the ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance, be dynamic and have the ability to problem solve with autonomy.
The owner is looking for a full time Senior Gardener with a working week of 40-hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work for watering purposes, depending on the season. For the second Gardener, the client is looking for someone to assist the Senior Gardener on a part time basis, 3 days per week.
Generous accommodation is on offer to the successful candidate(s) in the form of a 3-bedroom cottage with all household bills covered by the owners (except phone and internet). Partners and dependents are welcome and pets within reason. As this is a family home all members of the estate work closely together to create a friendly environment; the owners like to have someone on site at all times for security purposes, therefore this responsibility must be shared with those who also live in on site.
