Website ecgrecruitment English Country Gardeners

A self-motivated and all rounded Gardener is sought after on a full time and permanent basis for an incredible private garden in Oxfordshire.

The estate covers just over 350 acres with about 30 acres of formal gardens surrounding the main house. The grounds include a lake, expansive lawns and a series of grass terraces, mature box hedges and parterres, pleached trees, large walled kitchen garden with a mixed border running along the wall, a range of shrubs and herbaceous plants, espalier fruit trees and climbing plants including wisteria, an orchard with apples, pears and cherries and two greenhouses. In addition, there is an orangery, swimming pool, ponds – ornamental and with fish, and a parkland with a variety of mature trees.

The owners are garden enthusiasts and have been developing the gardens since they bought the property. They will be hosting a garden tour next year and are looking for a knowledgeable and hands on gardener to join at this exciting time to continue enhancing and developing the garden to achieve a high horticultural standard. The gardener will be part of a small team – a full time senior gardener, a part time gardener and contractors that maintain the lawns and hedges.

Applicants should be hands on, physically fit and have a ‘can do’ attitude as there will be a lot of clearing initially in the garden. He / She will ideally have experience as a skilled gardener working on a private estate, combined with good plant knowledge and excellent crafts skills.  PA1/PA6 spray certificates and chainsaw certificates would be ideal but essential as training can be provided. Ability to operate a range of garden machinery and a full UK driving licence is essential.

A one-bedroom flat is available rent free for the successful applicant if required. Council tax and utility bills are paid by the employer.
