Penns in the Rocks

Gardener required at Penns in the Rocks, Groombridge.

Penns has a large traditional private garden of about 16 acres, including a walled garden, a spectacular outcrop of sandstone rocks 140 million years old, two temples and a lake.  It is open 3 days a year for the National garden Scheme, and several group visits by appointment.

Some qualifications and previous gardening experience are essential.  We are looking for someone with a good knowledge of plants and shrubs, and who is familiar with horticultural techniques.  The successful applicant will work alongside our head gardener who has been with the family for 26 years.

Duties include mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, herbaceous border maintenance, pruning, glasshouse work, care of a swimming pool, vegetable and fruit growing, leaf clearance and weeding.  Spray and chain saw certificates would be beneficial but not essential.

Salary circa £30,000 p.a., with 5% employer’s pension contribution. Paid trial days will be offered to suitable candidates.

No accommodation offered.
