Gardener
An exciting opportunity for a passionate and capable gardener to join a small, friendly team on a private estate near Cheltenham. With approximately 10 acres of gardens, formal lawns, terraces, a pond, a kitchen garden and many other interesting areas. The planting is largely herbaceous with some very striking combinations, and there are some wonderful trees across the estate.
This role is varied, as is the nature of estate work, and the ideal candidate will have a can do attitude and be willing to pitch in where needed. The role is primarily based in the garden, supporting the Head Gardener with all seasonal garden jobs including mowing, weeding, cutting back and hedge cutting. A genuine passion for working outdoors is essential, and the ability to work in all weathers. The role also covers the maintenance of outdoor furniture and hard surfaces, with some handy person type jobs from time to time. Is it essential to be confident with garden machinery for this role, and chainsaw tickets or spraying tickets would be preferable.
Ideally applicants will hold a Horticultural qualification of some kind, however provable experience in a similar role is also adequate.
Key Duties:
- Mow and maintain all grass areas to include treatments and irrigation
- Maintain hard surfaces and outdoor furniture
- General gardening tasks under direction of Head Gardener
- Ensure all garden machinery is clean and serviced
- Gutters and drains when needed
- Occasional simple household repairs when needed, basic DIY
The ideal candidate will be:
- Comfortable with ladders and heights
- Confident using and servicing garden machinery
- A competent Gardener with either a qualification or experience maintaining gardens
- Able to prove experience in a similar role with references
- Able to drive
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8-4, some flexibility needed
Holiday: 20 days plus bank Holidays
