Experienced Gardener – Henley on Thames. A remarkable opportunity has arisen for a skilled Experienced Gardener to join a large country estate to maintain an area of outstanding natural beauty and historic importance in Henley on Thames. The gardens and leisure grounds total approximately 40 acres and surround a grade-II listed Georgian house. This role gives the individual a chance to become a vital part of a wider, established team of staff across the estate.

The formal 18th century garden is a very specialised area of horticulture, along with the formal gardens there is a beautiful walled garden, productive kitchen garden with a potting shed, and a glasshouse for storing a large range of houseplants. Additionally, there are some exceptional features such as the maze, croquet lawn and spectacular rock garden which make this a truly unique opportunity. The role will also include the upkeep of the wildflower meadow and cottage gardens across the estate.

The gardening team are seeking an passionate and Experienced Gardener with a positive, can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will have worked in a similar private or high-end setting and be confident working both independently and as part of a supportive team. Working alongside a knowledgeable Head Gardener, you’ll be involved in all aspects of garden maintenance including mowing, hedge cutting, and general upkeep. Ensuring the estate is kept to the highest standard throughout the seasons.

Experience with tractors and garden machinery is highly desirable, and holding PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates would be a bonus. You’ll also be expected to take pride in keeping tools, equipment, and the workspaces clean, safe, and well organised. A willingness to work at height is essential for certain tasks across the estate.

Your working hours from March to October will be Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from November to February, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will be required to work one weekend in six, with weekend hours varying seasonally. The holiday entitlement is 28 days per year, including public holidays. A DBS check and a confidentiality agreement are required for this position.
