A self-motivated and driven gardener is sought after on a full time and permanent basis for a beautiful garden designed by Tom Stuart Smith in Oxford.
The 25 – 30 acres garden is part of a shooting estate and consists of a walled garden, kitchen garden, rose garden, greenhouse for propagation work, extensive lawns both for ride on and fine mowing, topiary, hedges, herbaceous and mixed borders, shrubs and a variety of young and mature trees.
The gardener will join a team of two – Head Gardener and Senior Gardener. Half of the week, the gardener will be responsible for the general maintenance such as the mowing, weeding, hedge cutting, strimming and topiary work. The other half of the week, he / she will work closely with the Head Gardener on the more specialised areas such as the borders and the finer horticultural aspects of the garden.
The successful applicant will have good horticultural knowledge and technical skills. PA1 / PA6 and chainsaw certificates would be advantageous, however, the owners would be willing to support the training if required. The gardener will be organised and enjoy working to a high standard. The ability to operate a range of garden machinery and good craft skills are essential for the role as well as a full UK driving licence.
The position with suit someone with a real passion for horticulture and drive to further develop their knowledge and skills. He / She will be hands-on, physically fit and have the willingness to learn.
SALARY:Circa 25,000 depending on experience
