Skilled Gardener required.
Our client is a family-owned landscaping and gardening business based in Oxfordshire. With over 20 years of knowledge, the owners bring a wealth of horticultural experience. Steadily taking on private clients, the business has a growing repertoire of unique services ranging from product sourcing, floristry services, interior plants, maintenance and seasonal decoration. The company has blossomed into a trusted, reliable establishment, priding themselves on creating gardens that take people’s breath away. The owners have also begun to propagate and supply their own plants, providing clients with an even more personal, homegrown experience.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable and skilled gardener or Team Leader to join their team. The focus of the role will mainly be with one of their clients on a beautiful diverse private estate garden with occasional assistance on other sites. This may change in the future according to the client base. Reporting into the owner of the business, the gardener will be working with and ideally guiding three to four other gardeners onsite. The private garden mentioned above is about 10 acres and consists of formal lawns, pond, vegetable garden, herbaceous and mixed borders, beds, topiary, orchard that has recently been planted and a lake.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance and further enhancement of the garden to the specifications agreed between the owners of the business and the clients. The team work to a high horticultural standard and all members are very hands on. The garden equipment is all provided by the company and all gardens worked on are always left in neat and tidy at the end of the day.
Applicants should have excellent horticultural knowledge and plant identification. PA1/PA6 spray certificates are desirable. Excellent technical skills and experience with vegetable growing, specialist pruning including roses, wisteria and fruit trees is required for the role. The position is open to candidates who are organised, able to plan and prioritise workload and have either managed other team members previously or have the ability to move into a Team Leader role. Ability to operate a range of garden machinery, good craft skills and a full UK driving licence are also essential.
The working hours are 7.30 am to 4.30 pm with a half an hour break in the morning and a half an hour break for lunch. The team all meet at the office first thing in the morning and from there take a van to the site they would be working at. Due to Covid restrictions, the team now drive directly to site, although are required to come to base only if they are working on alternative gardens. This practice will continue going forward, as it suits the staff. All clients are roughly in a 10 – 15 mile radius from the base. A competitive salary is offered and will be depending on experience.
