Estate Worker
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and physically fit Estate Worker to contribute to the smooth running of a stunning private property near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. This new full-time permanent role will suit well-rounded and practically minded person with an ability to turn their hand to a multitude of estate maintenance/DIY tasks.
The stunning 4-acre formal gardens are set within 70-acres of meadows, woodland and farmland. Designed by Jinny Blom approximately ten years ago, the gardens exemplify the English Country Garden style and sensitively compliment the manor house, associated buildings and surrounding views. The garden is divided into ‘rooms’ with each area significantly different to the next; a large Ha-ha overlooking a beautiful valley, a yew topiary garden that evokes images of Alice in Wonderland and a large rose garden framed by a backdrop of mature native woodland. A new Sole Gardener has recently joined the estate and will benefit from the successful Estate Worker applicant providing additional help in terms of basic garden maintenance as well as that of the wider estate.
The role will involve all aspects of estate maintenance including the provision of assistance to the gardener; hedge cutting, mowing and garden maintenance. Non-horticultural duties will include jet-washing, sweeping, repairing and maintaining elements of the estate infrastructure; fences, gates, replacing washers on taps, clearing guttering from ladders, window cleaning, leaf-blowing, occasional cleaning up after the resident small Dachshund, raking gravel paths/driveways, salting walk/driveways in winter and any other duties as they arise.
The ideal applicant may be in the early stages of their career, i.e. fresh out of college or perhaps from a farming background. Physical fitness and a willingness to work in adverse weather conditions is essential of all applicants as the role will involve outdoor duties for the majority of the time. Candidates with a basic understanding and experience in garden maintenance are encouraged to apply, however the focus of the role is estate DIY and general upkeep, so applicants must have demonstrable experience of working on private estates, farms, or similar sites where grounds/estate maintenance played a primary focus of the position. The successful candidate must have a strong work ethic, a personable and trustworthy character, and must possess an ability to solve problems and apply practical and pragmatic solutions where necessary. A full driving licence is required of all applicants.
SALARY: £18,000 – £24,000 DOE
